AWARDS PRESENTED AT THE 2004 ISPE ANNUAL MEETING

To recognize and encourage excellence in the scholarship of students in pharmacoepidemiology, the ISPE Board of Directors grants several student awards annually. The Scientific Program Committee oversees the selection and presentation of awards, which will be held at the 2004 annual meeting. This year's awards and recipients follow.

Edlavitch Award: Wanning Xu, McGill University, The Effects of Antidepressant Drugs on the Risk of Colorectal Cancer: A Population-Based Case-Control Study.

The Edlavitch Award, created by the Board at the time of retirement of the Society's first Executive Director, Dr. Stanley Edlavitch, is presented to the student who submits the best abstract for presentation of the meeting

Second Best Abstract: Jeroen Derijks, Utrecht University, The Association between Antidepressant Use and Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia.

Third Best Abstract: Katia Verhamme, Erasmus Medical College, Non Steroidal Anti-Inlammatory Drugs Increase the Risk of Acute Urinary Retention — The Triumph Project.

Best Methods Abstract: Frank de Vries, Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Studies, Inhaled Corticosteroid Induced Risk of Osteoporotic Fractures Confounded by Disease Severity in Asthma/COPD.
