ISPE Emerging/Advocacy Issue Checklists

The Public Policy Committee has prepared two checklists to engage with ISPE members on horizon planning for the Society.

Emerging Issue

Definition: An emerging issue is a topic or subtopic of relevance to pharmacoepidemiology that is new or requires significant further development, definition, support (e.g., infrastructure), guidance, or best practices to advance its appropriate application, uptake, and impact (methodological or otherwise).

Guidance for submitters: You must answer "Yes" to all 3 questions for the issue/topic to be recommended as an ISPE Emerging Issue.

Advocacy Issue

Definition: An advocacy issue is one that warrants ISPE consideration for advocacy due to its alignment with ISPE's mission and goals, AND the fact that it is actionable or otherwise can be influenced by advocacy on ISPE's part.

Guidance for submitters: You must answer "Yes" to all 3 questions in the survey linked below for the issue/topic to be recommended as an ISPE Advocacy Issue.

Each year, submissions are assessed for inclusion in horizon scanning. Please submit by May 4 to be considered for the formal 2026 horizon scanning.

Since issues and advocacy needs arise outside of the ISPE horizon scanning timeline, there is no wrong time to complete the survey. The Public Policy Committee responds to issues submitted on a rolling basis.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
