News from the President
Dear ISPE colleagues,
I write to you for the first time as President of ISPE, still carrying the energy of our Annual Meeting in Milan. My thanks go first to the membership for the trust you have placed in me. I do not take it lightly, and I am grateful for the chance to serve our Society in this way.
I am fortunate to work alongside my colleagues on the Executive Committee: Ursula Kirchmayer, who continues in leadership as Immediate Past President following a year of steady and generous service as President; Susan dosReis, our President Elect; and Nicholas Everage, our Vice President/Finance. We are supported throughout by Laura Simmons, our Executive Secretary, whose work holds far more of this Society together than most members ever see. My thanks also go to the Board of Directors, whose members give their time to support the leadership of the Society and act as its stewards, and to the committee and all the community leaders who keep ISPE running week to week.
The year ahead is a journey we take together. The scientific agenda for 2026–2027 comes directly from the membership, shaped by the Horizon Scan and by conversations across the Society. It includes strategic efforts on training in pharmacoepidemiology, global regulatory recognition of real-world evidence, patient-reported outcomes in real-world evidence, and the integration of pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacogenomics, together with the revision of the Guidelines for Good Pharmacoepidemiology Practices. Each of these efforts depends on members willing to bring their work, their questions, and their different perspectives to the table. My thanks to everyone involved.
Advancing the science of pharmacoepidemiology is an important part of ISPE’s identity as a professional society. Making sure that every member feels they belong here is another. Our Special Interest Groups, Regional Interest Groups, Councils, and Committees give their leaders regular, structured access to the leadership of the Society. Those forums work well. Members who hold no leadership role deserve a comparable way to be heard. As such, I am happy to announce the launch of the Ask the President initiative. Beginning in November this year, a short form will be circulated with the first weekly member communication of each month. Any member may use it to ask about the Society’s strategic direction, its governance, or how to take a first step to engage with one of our existing communities. I will reply directly where a direct reply is the right response, and questions touching matters of broad interest will be answered in the final member communication of the month, so that the answer reaches everyone who was wondering about the same thing. I do not expect to have every answer, and some questions will be better referred to the community that owns the work. What I can promise is that every question reaches me, and that no one is left wondering whether it was read.
The year ahead belongs to all of us. I look forward to hearing from you, and to the work we will do together as ISPE members.
With warm regards,
Daniela Moga, MD, PhD, FISPE
